Hawaii Travel Tips

Best time to visit HAWAII

The Hawaiian Islands consist of six (6) major islands, Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Molokai, Lanai, and the Island of Hawaii (the Big Island). The three most popular Hawaiian islands are Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island (each with its own unique experience) when it comes to tourism. Honolulu (Oahu) is the most visited island and boasts the famous Waikiki beach, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, the Polynesian Cultural Center, and is the island we recommend for first-time visitors.

The average temperature on the islands is in the mid-60s to high 80s year-round, but if you're planning a beach vacation, the best time to visit Hawaii is between April - October. However, if surfing is your thing, then the best time to catch some waves or check out some competitions is between late December - April on the North Shore.

Best Beaches:

Oahu's beaches are an authentic taste of paradise, from the famous Waikiki Beach to the surfers paradise Ehukai Beach on the North Shore. Here are our top picks:

  • Waikiki Beach - One of the most famous beaches in Hawaii, Waikiki offers the ultimate Hawaiian beach experience, miles of white sand beach, clear blue waters, swaying palm trees, surfing, and shaved ice. It's within walking distance to hotels, restaurants, and great shopping.

  • Hanauma Bay - The perfect day trip experience, just 30 minutes from Honolulu. It has a vibrant coral reef just offshore, making it an excellent choice for snorkelers.

  • Magic Island - is a small lagoon with clear, calm waters most suited to families with young children.

  • Ko'Olina Beach - The Ko'Olina area features lagoons, with clear, calm beaches and beachfront resorts such as Aulani Disney Resort, Four Seasons Oahu Resort & Marriott's Ko'Olina Beach Club.

  • Sandy Beach - This is the perfect spot for surfers, with solid waves year-round and a popular site for Hawaiian food trucks.

  • Sunset Beach - Check out this two-mile stretch of beach, and then head over check out the Polynesian Cultural Center just down the road to add an authentic Hawaiian experience.

  • Ehukai Beach - Also known as the Banzai Pipeline, Ehukai Beach is most famous for its enormous waves. It's surfers heaven; surfers, photographers, and spectators visit from all over the globe for this experience.
